🎧  Listen to Introduction

Shipogu is located in the old course of the Yellow River. Historically, the Yellow River has flooded and disasters have occurred frequently. In the summer of the 12th year of Emperor Wen of the Han Dynasty (168 BC), the Yellow River burst its banks again, and the lives and property of local people were in danger. At this time, an old woman named Shipo saw the raging floods overwhelming the villagers, and she jumped into the burst of the surging Yellow River, and then turned into a huge rock, blocking the breach and saving the local people from disaster. In order to commemorate her, later generations made a statue of Shipo sitting on a stone drum, called "Shipogu Township Drum", and gradually spread to "Shipogu", and Shipogu got its name from this.
