The widespread dissemination of Huang Daopo's cotton textile technology has formed a custom of planting cotton and weaving in Jiangnan and Luojing Town; compared with the silk fabrics and embroidery used by the upper class officials, the cross-stitching of homespun cloth is more in line with the clothing requirements of the common people: the people have long decorated homespun clothes with patterns, using colored threads to "flow flowers", and then following the "flow" of the cloth to form a cross pattern, which is "Luojing cross-stitching". According to legend, it should be in the late Ming Dynasty and early Qing Dynasty, with a history of at least 300 years. Luojing cross-stitching, flowers are picked on clothes or handkerchiefs made of homespun cloth as patterns of "headbands", "body hooks", "belly bands", "cloth skirts", and "shoe uppers", especially "headbands" and "body hooks". In the water towns of Jiangnan, there is a trend that flowers cannot be used without cross-stitching. According to field survey records, the base colors of "headbands" are different. Generally, elderly women often use dark-colored homespun "headbands"; girls and women use white, and new brides must use green, with all the patterns and decorations on them being black; the patterns of "body hooks" are picked at the two side corners of the top surface, and the lines of the embroidery are not restricted to one style. In life, these two items are also the girls' preparations for marriage, which are used to "press the bottom of the box" and to show the degree of "hand dexterity" of the bride. In addition, "body hooks" are also "pain-returning" gifts. The so-called "pain-returning" is a custom of showing respect to the elders who give the bride a meeting gift. In embroidery production, Luojing cross embroidery seems simple, but it has high requirements. It requires that the front side is all cross-shaped to form patterns, and the back side must also form uniform dots. The basic needlework methods include "running needle", "twisting needle", "snake peeling", etc. The patterns of Luojing cross stitch have undergone a long period of development and formed a unique expression program, with dozens of independent patterns, such as "butterfly flower", "bird flower", "lotus flower", "waist water lily flower", "cypress branch flower", "octagonal flower", "one grass", "climbing vine grass", etc. The elements of these independent patterns form a colorful overall pattern. The picture of cross stitch has rich cultural connotations, including natural scenery, traditional patterns of blessing and disaster prevention, descriptions of legends, and the embodiment of one's wishes. It is a minor skill of folk women, which is not rare but difficult to be expensive, and it is also difficult to be accepted by the elegant hall. Therefore, there is no written record in the township history and local chronicles; after widespread dissemination, it is still everywhere. Therefore, we can neither deny the brilliant tradition woven by skillful women, nor erase the wisdom and creation of generations of peasant women. Luojing cross stitch, known for its local characteristics, embodies the accumulation of local culture, which is rare in Shanghai, an international metropolis. The most valuable thing is that the applicant has collected dozens of "cross stitch" objects and found more than a dozen inheritors who are good at weaving and embroidering. A few of them can also demonstrate and teach the skills. Classes are being held and art exhibitions are being planned. The development of social economy and science and technology has led to the end of the historical stage of homespun cloth. Luojing cross stitch, a traditional folk handicraft that women had to learn from childhood, is also on the verge of being lost and urgently needs to be rescued and protected.
