🎧  Listen to Introduction

my country's woodcarving art has a long history, dating back to the Neolithic period. Fengcheng woodcarving originated during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty. From the beginning of the woodcarving workshop to the present, it has a history of more than 100 years. Fengcheng woodcarving is finely crafted, and more than 50 kinds of tools are used. Woodcarving works are represented by the round carving of brothers Xu Huabing and Xu Huaxing and the flat carving of father and son Pei Fuquan and Pei Jianlong. Woodcarving uses the best sandalwood, teak, camphor wood, and basswood as raw materials, and is finely carved. On the basis of traditional woodcarving art, the products have different degrees of innovation in subject matter, composition, lines, knife techniques and varieties. As a traditional folk handicraft, Fengcheng woodcarving has a high value and influence in arts and crafts. Fengcheng woodcarving crafts with unique shapes are placed in front of the American Pavilion in the 2010 World Expo Park; the exquisitely crafted woodcarving hanging screen "Songquan Tu" is in the VIP room of the Shanghai Exhibition Center; in Longhua Temple, Jade Buddha Temple and other temples and Taoist temples, there are Fengcheng-made statues of immortals and Buddhas, altars, niches and other carvings. The mid- to high-end furniture and various antique imitations produced in Fengcheng have overcome the shortcomings of traditional wood carvings that are beautiful but not practical. They integrate ornamental and practical properties and enjoy a high reputation both at home and abroad.
