Miner's Song
Miners' songs are labor songs distributed in the Changyu Stone Mine area. It has a long folk heritage and is still continuing. Changyu Stone Mine is located in the west of Xinhe Town. It has been famous for producing high-quality building stones for thousands of years and is known as the "Hometown of Slate". Since ancient times, local residents have used locally produced stones to build houses, and endowed column heads and stone walls with exquisite relief decorations, forming a unique stone cultural landscape. Since the reform and opening up, many new stone carvings have been created. Some stone lions, stone statues and other carvings are even sold overseas, so Changyu has the reputation of "Hometown of Stone Carving". Mining in Changyu has a history of more than 1,500 years. During the entire quarrying process, in order to reduce the fatigue and danger of the miners, a master on duty leads the singing of the songs, and other craftsmen sing in a rhythmic and sequential manner. For more than 1,500 years, they have used hammers and chisels as instruments and stones as pianos to play one heavy and profound musical miners' songs after another. There are: slate-carrying number (called saltpeter delivery number), slate-cutting number (hammering number), etc. "Miner's song" has distinct local cultural characteristics. It was created during labor and is the crystallization of the wisdom of the working people. The content is rich and colorful, which can not only reflect the labor intensity, mining dangers, hardship of life, and exploitation of mine owners, but also reflect the miners' pursuit of a happy life and their vision of a better future.
