The Carpenter's Song
Folk ballad. Popular in Shide Town, Liquan County. Craftsmen are commonly known as artisans. In the old days, the most common ones were carpenters and masons. Masons mostly built houses, stoves, and kangs, while carpenters mainly built doors, windows, furniture, and coffins. Carpenters pay attention to the use of axes, and there is a saying that "a thousand days of axes and a hundred days of adzes". When the furniture is completed, a little tail should be left, which means there is still work to do. When making coffins, they must be cleaned up, otherwise it will be considered a curse for the owner's family to die again. After the coffin is made, the owner will invite relatives and friends to celebrate and reward the craftsmen. Carpenters pass on their skills from master to apprentice for a period of three years. During this period, the master only provides food and does not pay wages. When the master is graduated, the master will give a set of tools. The ancestor of carpenters is commonly known as Lu Ban, and the Lu Ban meeting is held on the seventh day of May every year. Liquan's "Carpenter's Song" says: "Clang, clang, clang, clang, clang, I sing with my axe in my hand. A master teacher produces a talented student. I am famous for my work. I make a spinning wheel that spins happily. I spin three or two threads in a morning. I make a loom with a waist circle, and weave cloth to sew clothes. The bellows I make have two ends, and I can cook without smoke. The steamer I make is a famous brand, and I can steam white steamed buns with black flour. I make a shoulder pole with two ends bent, and Li Yangui carries water into the garden. I make a fishing boat with two ends pointed, and Hu Fenglian likes to hide Tian Yuchuan. I make a dragon head crutch, and She Taijun pays for it; I make a coiled dragon stick and give it to Zhao Kuangyin. The wooden ox and flowing horse are famous, and they have been used to go to Qishan six times. He made a great contribution. Sima Yi stole the work and learned how to make it, but he was a complete failure because he didn't know how to do it. The four-wheeled cart was given to Zhuge Liang, but Confucius came too late to catch up. The apprentice made the whip into a stick, and Yang Paifeng took it to the battlefield. Make tables and chairs, doors and windows, and the old man will have all the materials (referring to coffins) when he passes away. Carve dragon chairs and beds, and make cabinets for the emperor's daughter when she marries. Build the Lingxiao Palace in the sky and the Crystal Palace in the sea. Build the Golden Palace for the emperor to sit, and build the government office for the wolves to lie in. Since ancient times, artists have been pitied, and carpenters live in shabby houses. My wife has no bed to sleep on, and my child's face is yellow from hunger. "(No pictures yet, please provide them.)(No pictures yet, please provide them.)
