Anxin Quantou Village Concert
Quantou Village is located in the southeast of Anxin County, Baoding City, Hebei Province, in the center of Baiyangdian Lake, surrounded by water. The Quantou Concert began in the late Ming Dynasty and early Qing Dynasty and has continued to this day. Its music scores and music are monk-transmitted and belong to northern music. The band is composed of instruments such as sheng, pipe, flute, cloud gong, drum, cymbals, cymbals, and dangzi. It retains the repertoire of the Ming and Qing Dynasties and even older. The repertoire is complete and has a long history. It has been passed down for hundreds of years. Since its formation, the concert has been providing free services for funerals, folk sacrifices, and social and government celebrations in this village and surrounding areas, and occupies an important position in local folk culture. The performance skills of the Quantou Concert are also very distinctive. The instruments used are all in the "E" key. The full set of repertoires includes 40 pieces and a set of percussion instruments, namely (Zuochan Tan): 14 small collapsed pieces, 10 small sharp pieces, 13 small large pieces, and 3 large pieces. All the music is divided into five types of beats: scattered board, inverted board, section board, slow flow board, and fast flow board. During the Cultural Revolution, the concert was restricted and changed to playing revolutionary songs, such as "The East is Red", "The Sea Sailing Depends on the Helmsman", "The Quotations from Chairman Mao", etc., and then restored traditional music. The ancestors worshipped in the concert are the Medicine King Bian Que and the ten famous doctors in Chinese history, such as Pi Tong, Hua Tuo, Sun Lin, Zhang Zhongjing, Sun Simiao, Liu Hejian, etc. |zhou (belonging to Renqiu City) was called Bohai| in the Spring and Autumn Period. It was the hometown of the famous doctor Bian Que. Therefore, many Medicine King Temples were built in his hometown and all over the country to worship him. Quantou originally belonged to Renqiu (|zhou). Historically, Quantou concerts had the tradition of going to the |zhou Medicine King Temple to participate in the temple fair to worship the Medicine King. Regarding the |zhou Medicine King Temple, "Renqiu City Chronicles" records: It was first built in the Yuan Dynasty to worship Bian Que. It was rebuilt in the 20th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1592) and began to take shape. There is a saying that "the world's largest temples are in |zhou". It was burned down by fire during the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty (1785), and has now been rebuilt with a magnificent and spectacular project. After the |zhou Grand Temple was burned down by fire, the Quantou Concert still maintained the tradition of offering sacrifices to the Medicine King, but the ritual of taking a boat to |zhou to offer sacrifices to the Medicine King in the early years was changed to the act of setting up a shed to offer sacrifices in the village. Therefore, the sacrifices to the Medicine King by Quantou Village from April 19th to 21st of the lunar calendar every year are actually a continuation of the sacrifices to the Medicine King at the |zhou Temple Fair in the past. The inheritance of the concert is a very important issue. The reason why the concert has been passed down through the vicissitudes of time is that the villagers are pious in the worship of the Medicine King in their hearts. It is precisely because of this factor that the concert has been able to be passed down for hundreds of years with almost no change. Without music, the entire ceremony will become boring. Therefore, music has become the "glue" in the entire sacrificial ceremony and is indispensable.
