The woodblock New Year paintings in Lige Town have been developed for a long time and have a great influence mainly in Caomiao and Chenji villages. There are still a large number of woodblock New Year paintings in the two villages, and there are still people making woodblock New Year paintings in Chenji Village. The woodblock New Year paintings in Chenji Village began in the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty, about 120 years ago, and have been passed down to the present, and there have been five generations. The first generation was called Tao Xizhong, the second generation was called Tao Shouwu, the third generation was called Tao Lantian, the first generation was Tao Qingxiang, Tao Jiaxiang, Tao Tinglin, etc., and the fifth generation was Tao Yunhai, Tao Yunhang, Tao Zilong, Tao Wei, etc. At first, only the Tao family in Chenji Village made woodblock New Year paintings. By the Republic of China period, woodblock New Year paintings had rapidly developed to nearly 20 in the village, and they were very popular at that time, and the "Southern Painting Shop" opened by the Tao family was more famous. At first, New Year paintings and gods were the main ones, mostly posted on door panels and walls inside the house. There were also a small number of large paintings in the central hall, which were used to pray for peace and good luck or worship, followed by drama. Woodblock New Year paintings have clear lines and bright colors. They can not only express folk stories passed down orally, but also print mythological figures. They have a strong folk flavor and a heavy share of moral propaganda. For example, the stories of the "Twenty-Four Filial Exemplars" such as "Wang Hua Buys Father", "Yan Qing Buys Mother", "Ding Lang Carves Wood", "Splitting the Mountain to Save Mother", "Whip Reed Flowers", "Wang Xiang Lying on Fish", etc., and historical allusions and plays have always been loved by the masses and have played a positive role in promoting good folk customs. Although woodblock New Year paintings have developed to this day, their works are mostly used to make paper sedan chairs and covers for funerals in rural areas, but their expressions do not have superstitious colors. Instead, they are mostly used in the form of stories to promote the ideas of "loyalty, filial piety, benevolence" and other traditional national morality in my country. At a specific time and place, these ideas are promoted in this specific form. The appeal of education is invisible and profound, which has played a positive role in promoting the construction of local spiritual civilization and has made an indelible contribution to the spread of my country's excellent traditional culture. As of today, no matter its form of expression or artistic aesthetics, it has a heavy cultural and artistic value. Tao Qingxiang has won many awards in the Folk Art Exhibition of the Jining Cultural and Art Festival. Many of his works are collected by the Jining Museum. Tao Jiaxiang was also awarded the honorary title of "Folk Artist" by the Jining Municipal Bureau of Culture. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.) (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
