🎧  Listen to Introduction

The "flower cymbals and drums" in Longquanwu Village, Mentougou District are vigorous and heroic. The "flower cymbals and drums" in Longquanwu Village, Mentougou District, also known as "pot club", "drum club" and "drum club", are composed of eight drums and 16 children dancing cymbals, and mainly use somersaults and other skills throughout. According to the elderly in the village, the "pot club" was taught by Zhang Qing, an old man from Weidian Village. Zhang Qing not only knows how to play the drum, but also knows how to "play pot (flower cymbals)", and can do somersaults on the drum surface with superb skills; therefore, due to the master's teaching, the performance style of the "flower cymbals and drums" in the village contains the vigorous and heroic charm of traditional martial arts. For example, the "head somersault" in the routine is performed by two cymbal dancers, A and B, who squat with their heads together, and B rolls over A's back; the "0 somersault" is performed by cymbal dancers A and B standing in the same direction, with A in front and B behind, and A squats with his hands on the ground, while B leans forward with his hands on the ground, and rolls over A's back with his head on his buttocks; there are also "back somersaults", "hip somersaults", "horizontal somersaults" and "back and forth somersaults", which are all highly technical double tumbling movements. For example, in the "Kick the Cymbals Front" movement, A and B, the cymbal dancers, stand facing each other, B withdraws his right leg into a "left front bow step", with his upper body slightly bent forward, his left hand behind his waist, and his right cymbal stretched downward in front of his chest. A stretches his right foot forward to kick B's right cymbal, and at the same time, he hits his own cymbals with both hands in front of his chest; in the "Sweeping Leg" routine, A and B still face each other, A sweeps his right "sweeping leg" to B's feet, and B quickly leaps upward, "hitting his own cymbals" with both hands above his head; there is also the "Stepping on the Hair" movement, A and B stand facing each other, A does a "flying leg" or "covering leg" and "hitting his own cymbals", and B bends forward to "hit his own cymbals" with his upper body passing under A's legs; the above movements of the two people are not only skillfully coordinated, but also upright, stretched, and clean. The "flower cymbals and drums" of Longquanwu Village in Mentougou District, with its combination of strength and softness, heroic and unrestrained artistic style, is unique among many traditional folk dances. Beijing's traditional folk dance "flower cymbals and drums", with its unique performance form with rich emotions and charm and its own distinctive artistic style in different regions, occupies an extremely important position in the city's folk dances and is still loved by people today.
