Jesuit Missions of the Guaranis: San Ignacio Mini, Santa Ana, Nuestra Señora de Loreto and Santa Maria Mayor (Argentina), Ruins of Sao Miguel das Missoes (Brazil)
The ruins of Mission São Miguel in Brazil and the Cathedrals of San Ignacio Mini, Santa Ana, Our Lady of Loreto and Santa María in Argentina are located deep in the tropical forest. They are the remains of five Jesuit missions built in the 17th and 18th centuries on Guaraní lands. Each mission has a specific layout and a different state of conservation.
Old Town of Ávila with its Extra-Muros Churches
Built in the 11th century to protect Spanish territory from the Moors, the "City of Saints and Stones" is the birthplace of Saint Theresa and the burial place of the Grand Inquisitor Torquemada, and still retains its medieval simplicity. This purity of form can still be seen in the Gothic cathedral and the fortifications, which, with 82 semicircular towers and 9 gates, are the most complete fortifications in Spain.
Area de Conservación Guanacaste
The Guanacaste Reserve (listed in 1999) has been expanded to include the 15,000-hectare private property Santa Elena. The area contains important natural habitats essential for the conservation of biodiversity, including the best dry forest habitat from Central America to northern Mexico and critical habitats for endangered or rare plant and animal species. The site demonstrates important ecological processes in both terrestrial and marine coastal environments.
