The Yellow Millet Dream: Lü Xian Temple
Huangliangmeng Lvxian Temple is a famous Taoist building in China. It is also the only scenic spot in China with dream culture as its theme. It was built according to a legend. The story goes that during the Kaiyuan period of the Tang Dynasty, the Taoist Lv Weng became an immortal and traveled around the world as an elder. One day, in an inn on the Handan Road, he met a poor scholar named Lu Sheng who rode a green horse to Beijing to take the imperial examination. Lu Sheng told Lu Weng about his bad luck and repeated failures in the exam. As they talked, he felt drowsy. Seeing this, Lu Weng took out a celadon porcelain pillow with holes at both ends from his bag and handed it to him, saying, "You should take a nap first." As soon as Lu Sheng put his head on the porcelain pillow, he fell asleep quickly. He dreamed that he passed the imperial examination and was promoted repeatedly, but he experienced ups and downs and was framed several times. Fortunately, the emperor vindicated him. Later, he became a general and became a prime minister. He was named Duke of Yan and married a beautiful wife. The whole family enjoyed wealth and glory. He died at the age of 81 after a long illness. At this point in the dream, Lu Sheng suddenly woke up and saw the shop owner cooking yellow rice. Lu Sheng was surprised, but Lu Weng smiled and said to him, "The way of life is just a dream, isn't it?" Lu Sheng suddenly realized, threw away his poetry and books, and went to learn Taoism from Lu Weng.
Kuixing Tower
Chengde Kuixing Tower Scenic Area is located on the top of Banbi Mountain in the southern part of Chengde City. It was built in the 8th year of Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty (1828) by Hai Zhong, the then prefect of Chengde. It is the largest Taoist temple built after the Eight Outer Temples. Kuixing Tower is famous for enshrining the Kuixing God who "opens the literary fortune and points the top scholar", and students from thousands of miles around rush to worship. The original building stood on the top of Banbi Mountain. It was a three-room hard-mountain mud-tile hall, which was destroyed due to years of disrepair. The newly built Kuixing Tower is located on the original Banbi Mountain, covering an area of more than 100 acres. Its building scale is much larger than the original building, and it has added many new contents with rich cultural connotations. The surrounding 800-meter wall is made of tiger skin wall stone and blue bricks into battlements, winding along the cliff, like a giant dragon covering the main building, enhancing the momentum of the landscape. The main buildings in the scenic area are colorful and magnificent. The whole group of buildings are built according to the terrain of the mountain, staggered and stacked. From top to bottom, they are buildings, corridors, halls, pavilions and gardens, presenting a unique Taoist architectural style.
