Yinzhou Craft Stone Carving

Zhejiang
🎧  Listen to Introduction

Stone carving is one of the most regional traditional handicrafts in Yinjiang Town. There are two types of Ningbo's three stones: Xiaoxi Stone, Meiyuan Stone, and Dayin Stone in Yinjiang. They are Xiaoxi Stone and Meiyuan Stone. Humans have used stones as tools since the Stone Age, and gradually used them as building materials. It can be seen that the quarrying industry has a long history. There are still four ancient quarry sites in Yinjiang Town. They are Shanghuashan Quarry Site, Tiantayan Quarry Site, Ma'angang Quarry Site, and Huaxingdang Quarry Site, which are listed as district-level cultural relics protection units, and do not include the remains of Xiajiangdang Quarry. Most of the building stones in Ningbo area come from Xiaoxi Stone in Yinjiang. The more delicate Meiyuan Stone is mostly used as stele materials and stone carvings, scattered all over the country. Most of the existing Dongqian Hunan Song stone carvings were produced from Xiaoxi Stone in the Southern Song Dynasty.
