Paper-cutting is a project for the protection of intangible cultural heritage at the Fangshan District level. Paper-cutting, also known as paper carving, is a kind of hollow art. Paper-cutting art is a treasure of Chinese folk art. Ancient paper-cutting is mostly done in the countryside, mainly with scissors, simple and natural, and mostly by women from farms. In order to save labor and cut multiple pieces with one knife, paper-cutting artists changed to carving with knives, and the style turned to exquisiteness, and artists were no longer limited to rural women. The older generation of folk paper-cutting masters include Teng Fengqian, Gao Fenglian, Ku Shulan, Qi Xiumei, He Zuolin, etc. Mr. He Zuolin is a national first-class calligrapher and painter, a master of folk paper-cutting art, and the inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage of northern Sichuan paper-cutting. He has a high prestige in the paper-cutting art world. Mr. Xu Yang is a disciple of Mr. He Zuolin, a senior arts and crafts artist in China, and the only paper-cutting artist in Beijing who has been awarded the title of "master". Chen Fenglian has loved paper-cutting since childhood. She worshipped Xu Yang as her teacher, learned the art of paper-cutting, and spread it in the Yanshan area. Under Chen Fenglian's advocacy, paper-cutting art has been widely spread in various communities in Fangshan and Yanshan, driving the continuous prosperity of regional paper-cutting art. With a piece of colored paper and a pair of scissors, one can vividly express the ever-changing natural forms and freely express the beauty of the inner world. Many of Chen Fenglian's works are exhibited in the Museum of Chinese National Art Treasures, the Taipei Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, and the Beijing Taiwan Hall. Among them, "Auspicious Zodiac Group Flowers" is collected by the Museum of Chinese National Art Treasures, and "Six Zodiac Signs" is compiled in the "Collection of Paper-cutting Art of Folk Customs on Both Sides of the Taiwan Straits."
