Jintan cloisonné is a traditional art project in the fourth batch of representative projects of Changzhou's municipal intangible cultural heritage. Cloisonné products, also known as copper enamel crafts, are a folk art variety with national style and distinct local characteristics. This craft was popular in the north during the Jingtai period of the Ming Dynasty. Because the glaze used was mainly blue, it was called cloisonné. In the second year of the Xuantong period of the Qing Dynasty, Zou Zhaolin, a native of Houcun, Baita, Jintan, went to Beijing alone to make a living in the cloisonné industry and learn from a master. On the eve of the founding of New China, Zou Zhaolin wandered around Shanghai and taught his apprentices and was very famous. During the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, Zou Zhaolin, according to the requirements of his superiors, used cloisonné to make a batch of medals for meritorious service in the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, and was praised by relevant central leaders. In the early 1960s, Zou Zhaolin returned to his hometown of Jintan to continue teaching his apprentices and engaging in the cloisonné products industry. He passed down this traditional art through Xie Xuegen and others from Baita, Jintan. Since the 1970s, the cloisonné production industry in Jintan has spawned a number of family workshops and corporate groups in Baita and Wuye. At its peak, there were more than 20 cloisonné handicraft companies in Baita and Wuye townships alone, with about 1,000 employees. The main production workshops are now in Baita and other places in Jintan West City. Although Jintan's cloisonné was originally moved in from the north, it has been passed down from generation to generation and has unique styles and craftsmanship. For example, the cloisonné in the north is mainly made of large and medium pieces, with a rough and simple style; while Jintan's cloisonné is mainly made of medium and small pieces, with lively and exquisite shapes and a wide variety. The magic of Jintan's cloisonné lies in the fact that it can design and produce decorative paintings that meet contemporary aesthetic tastes using traditional craftsmanship, and its works and products are more selective, flexible and practical. The flat decorative paintings made with traditional cloisonné enamel craftsmanship not only contain the original artistic beauty of cloisonné enamel products, but also draw on the strengths of many others and absorb the craftsmanship and artistic elements of other types of paintings. The production process of Jintan cloisonné is complex and delicate, with high requirements for materials and craftsmanship, and is basically handmade. Every successful cloisonné product must go through more than ten processes such as plate making, tire making, welding, wire cloisonné, welding wire, blue dotting, blue burning, blue grinding, polishing, and gold plating. It has obvious characteristics of acid and alkali resistance, never deformation, and never fading. The Jintan cloisonné inheritance group represented by folk craftsman Xie Yueqing has made unremitting efforts for more than 40 years to inherit, develop and carry forward this folk arts and crafts. The Yuexin Cloisonné Products Co., Ltd. it operates has accumulated more than 10 series of hundreds of products such as badges, medals, ornaments, toys, pretty images, animals, tableware, ashtrays, souvenirs and Buddhist products, which are exported to more than a dozen countries and regions such as the United States, Japan, Britain, France, Romania, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
