The butterfly song of the Yao nationality is popular in the Yao ethnic group's settlements in Fuchuan Yao Autonomous County, Zhongshan County, Guangxi, and Jianghua Yao Autonomous County, Hunan, and their neighboring areas. The butterfly song is a two-part folk song of the Yao nationality, sung in a Chinese dialect, and the content is mainly love songs. Because the words and phrases of the song often include "蝴蝶的蝶", "蝶的蝶", and "黄蜂", it is named "蝴蝶歌". In 2008, the butterfly song of the Yao nationality was included in the list of national intangible cultural heritage. In order to inherit and protect the Yao butterfly song, Fuchuan has invested more than 600,000 yuan in Liantang Village, Lianshan Town, as the inheritance base of this intangible cultural heritage. The butterfly song is sung in a dialect called "Wuzhou local vernacular" in the two-part folk songs of the Yao ethnic group. The content involves various aspects and fields of the production and life of the Yao people, such as recording events, conveying feelings, worshipping ancestors, and telling history. The original two-part singing method of the butterfly song, the national art characteristics of the singers' improvisation, eloquence, and singing in groups have deeply attracted domestic and foreign artists, national art lovers, and tourists from all walks of life. The butterfly song has a clear and beautiful tune, which is melodious and pleasant to the ears. The butterfly song has a beautiful and graceful tune, which is melodious and pleasant to the ears. Since the butterfly song originated in the 1980s and 1990s, it has been a popular form of cultural entertainment and friendship for people of all ethnic groups in Fuchuan. Later, due to the development of the times, people's aesthetic perspectives and entertainment and leisure methods have changed, and the butterfly song has not been favored by young people, because most young people mainly work outside. If they leave the vast birthplace of the Yao butterfly song, they will not be able to pass it on or even know very little about it, resulting in a lack of people to inherit the butterfly song. The systematic excavation of the Yao butterfly song by the Lianshan Town Government began in the 1980s. By 2006, Fuchuan used the Yao butterfly song sung by singers from Daliantang Village, Lianshan Town as the material, and applied to the autonomous region for the Yao butterfly song to be an intangible cultural heritage in the form of text materials and audio-visual materials. In 2007, the Yao butterfly song was included in the autonomous region-level intangible cultural heritage list. Subsequently, the Yao butterfly song has attracted the attention of more people. In 2008, the Yao butterfly song was included in the national intangible cultural heritage list. In the following years, under the leadership of the higher-level party committee and government and the strong support of the propaganda, culture and other relevant departments, the local party committee and government increased the investment in the excavation, sorting, inheritance and development of the Yao ethnic group's butterfly song in terms of human, material and financial resources. In June 2011, the intangible cultural heritage Yao ethnic group butterfly song inheritance building settled in Liantang Village Committee of Lianshan Town was completed and handed over to the village committee for use; in order to make the butterfly song more complete and original in the excavation and inheritance of the butterfly song, two experienced old singers were selected from the folk singers in Daliantang as inheritors to engage in the display of the butterfly song; four female singers with mellow singing voices and good vocal skills were selected from young and middle-aged singers to engage in the singing of the butterfly song. At the same time, four young people with more suitable conditions were selected in the village as inheritors, and they were trained as a new generation of butterfly song singers in terms of the singing method and lyrics of the butterfly song. A butterfly song inheritance class was opened in the second primary school of the county and the junior high school of Lianshan Town, and senior singers were invited to teach the butterfly song. Although the protection and inheritance work is being carried out in a planned and step-by-step manner, there are still many problems: there is a serious shortage of personnel. Except for some comrades in the cultural department who are engaged in ethnic art research and folk singers, there are no more professional and higher-level researchers to engage in the excavation of the Yao Butterfly Song; there is insufficient capital investment; there are few original text materials left, and the audio-visual materials are not perfect. In the next step, the town will take the project construction as an opportunity and cultural tourism as a platform to carry out the inheritance of the Yao Butterfly Song in an all-round and systematic manner from the aspects of cultural construction, talent training, and research projects, so that the Yao Butterfly Song will be sung forever and emit a dazzling national cultural light.
