Haiyang Yangge is one of the three major Yangge in Shandong. It is the dance part of the folk festival and is popular in Haiyang City on the southern wing of Shandong Peninsula and the coast of the Yellow Sea. Haiyang Yangge is a folk art form that combines singing, dancing and drama. It is spread across more than ten towns in Haiyang and radiates to surrounding areas. According to the "Zhao Family Genealogy" of Zhaojiazhuang in Haiyang, "The second ancestor (Zhao) Tong inherited the command and pacification of (Dasongwei) and was conferred the title of General Wulue. In the first year of Hongxi, five generations lived together. The emperor bestowed the amount of "Seven Leaves of Prosperity" and hung a plaque for Gu Dan. The commanders and gentry came to congratulate. The music and dance students heard "Shao" and led the Yangge they created and practiced, dancing and singing in the courtyard, and they were very happy." From this, we can know that Haiyang Yangge was actually created in the Ming Dynasty. Haiyang Yangge has rich performance content and a strict team structure. It is mainly composed of three parts. When traveling, the deacon part is in the front row, followed by the band, and then the dance team. The dance team has dozens of characters of various roles, including the conductor Yao Dafu, group performers Huagu, Xiao, Bawangbian, double performers Peddler and Cuihua, Hoop and Aunt Wang, Ugly Woman and Silly Boy, Old Man and Wife, Husband and Daughter-in-law, etc., and the last one is Yangko characters or opera miscellaneous performers. The common formations of Yangko team include "Two Dragons Spitting Beards", "Eight Diagrams Fighting", "Dragon Wagging Tail", "Dragon Coiling Tail", "Two Dragons Twisting Pillars", "Three Fishes Fighting for the Head", "Stars Holding the Moon", etc. The outstanding feature of Haiyang Yangko dance movements is the combination of running and twisting. The dancers twist while running. Women twist their waists and hold fans, step up and shake their shoulders, which is lively and generous; men tremble and shake their heads, swing their arms and change shoulders, which is cheerful and humorous. Haiyang Yangko is the embodiment of the collective wisdom and creative spirit of the Haiyang people. In reality, Haiyang Yangko clearly shows the spiritual outlook and personality characteristics of the rural people in Haiyang. It is an important part of the regional culture of a place, with aesthetic value and historical value, and has played an important role in enriching the cultural life of the masses and building a harmonious society. Haiyang Yangge has been included in the teaching materials of Han ethnic dance. In 1996, Haiyang City was named "Hometown of Chinese Folk Art" by the Ministry of Culture.
