🎧  Listen to Introduction

The Five Tiger Sticks of Majuan Village has a long history of performance in the local area. It is an important part of the folk memory of the area around Mapo and an important folk cultural landscape in Shunyi area. The Five Tiger Sticks of Majuan Village belongs to the Taizu Five Tiger Sticks, which emerged in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China. It has a history of more than 100 years. After six generations of inheritance, its movements, routines and costumes still retain the most original style. Its characteristics are that the performers wear fixed-pattern painted faces, apricot-yellow performance clothes, and hold sticks on stage. When fighting, it is like two tigers fighting, jumping into the air, dancing with sticks, and gongs and drums to cheer, which makes the audience dazzled, as if watching warriors fighting on an ancient battlefield. The "Five Tiger Sticks" performance is sometimes doubles, sometimes group fights, each with its own name and storyline.
