Qinghai Lake Sea Sacrifice is the largest folk sea sacrifice activity in the area around Qinghai Lake. The history of Qinghai Lake sacrifice can be traced back to the Han Dynasty. In the first month of the tenth year of the Tianbao period of the Tang Dynasty (751), the imperial court conferred the title of Guangrun Gong on the god of the West Sea when conferring titles on the four sea gods of the southeast, northwest and northeast. The Qinghai Lake Sea Sacrifice activity has continued since then and has a history of more than 1,200 years. The Qinghai Lake Sea Sacrifice is held on the 15th day of the seventh lunar month every year. At that time, a mulberry platform is built on the seashore, pine and cypress branches are lit, and lamas chant scriptures. Tibetans, Mongolians and other ethnic groups offer Hada, white wine, five-color grains, butter fried noodles and other offerings, and throw paper wind horses "Longda" into the air. After the sacrifice, the master holds a bag of grains wrapped in five-color silk threads, leads a lama guard of honor holding various instruments, and blows Tibetan suona and horns. The deer god, the ox god and other local gods wearing deer and ox masks rush to the lakeshore. The master stood on the shore and chanted incantations toward the lake, while the worshippers threw offerings into the lake to express their worship of the sea god and pray that the sea god would bless all living beings with happiness and peace. After the sea sacrifice ceremony, sports activities such as horse racing, cattle racing, archery, and performances such as dancing, Zuodouhou, Sande dance, and auspicious deer dance were held by the lake. The Qinghai Lake Sea Sacrifice retains quite complete traditional folk customs, and the contents of the sacrificial words, - and traditional sports competitions have high research value in religion and ethnology, and are valuable materials for exploring the development and evolution history of ancient Chinese nations.
