Wulong Wujiang Boatman's Song
The Wujiang River rushes between the Dalou and Wuling Mountains, with great momentum and successive gorge and rapids. The two banks are flanked by strange mountains, the river is rocky and the waves are turbulent, and it is known as a "natural barrier". The Wujiang River is dangerous and has high waves. When going up the water, usually more than 10 boats set out in a group. Whenever encountering a large rapid, it is necessary to concentrate the manpower of each boat to pull the boat together. The boatmen's huge horns are solid and sonorous, high-pitched and passionate, which can drown out the roaring sound of the river and be heard dozens of miles away. The Wujiang boatman's horn originated from the boatmen on the Wujiang River. As a kind of labor horn, the lyrics of the Wujiang horn are full of life, mostly reflecting certain social life content, and some are for regulating the spirit, entertainment and recreation. There are dozens of Wujiang boatman songs, including "Qi Tou Hao", "Pan Tan Hao", "Ping Tan Hao", "Tuo Gang Hao", "Shang Tan Hao", "Xia Jiang Hao", etc. The singing style is characterized by high pitch, roughness, simplicity, magnificent momentum, and a thousand turns, showing the twists and turns of emotions and the fiery labor scene. In the early years, the ancestors along the Wujiang River were naked, rocking wooden boats with difficulty, carrying heavy ropes with difficulty, lying on the narrow ancient towpath of the Wujiang River all year round, with cliffs above their heads and facing the stormy waves. In order to adjust the breathing and movements of labor, they issued rhythmic calls, which gradually became concise words and sentences later. This kind of call can make the lonely environment become warm. In addition to directing production, it also has the effect of inspiring labor emotions, dissipating fatigue, and improving labor efficiency. This kind of call has been passed down from generation to generation, and has been continuously enriched, gradually forming a set of fixed content and form. Wujiang songs are the spiritual wealth created by millions of people along the Wujiang River from generation to generation. In 2019, it was included in the sixth batch of Chongqing's intangible cultural heritage representative projects. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.) (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
