Ganshe Festival
Diman Village, Daping Township, is located in the most remote village in Wanshan District, bordering some villages in Jiangkou and Cengong counties. "Ganshe" is a characteristic culture of Diman Village, mainly inhabited by the Dong and Miao ethnic groups, and is held once a year. The date of "Ganshe" is irregular. The fifth Wu day of the beginning of spring is the "Ganshe Festival", which is calculated by the older generation. In the early morning of the "Ganshe Festival", the village will slaughter pigs and sheep to sacrifice to the ancestors, making it lively. According to legend, in ancient times, there was a young and beautiful woman who delivered meals to her husband who went up the mountain to farm every day. Because there was not enough food, she picked some wild vegetables and cooked them with the food. One day after the beginning of spring, when the woman went up the mountain to deliver meals, she saw a young man lying on the side of the road, dying. The woman squatted down, touched the young man's forehead and nose, and saw that the man was still alive, so she went to the stream to scoop a bowl of water to feed the man. The man slowly woke up, and the woman then gave the meal she sent to her husband to the man, saving his life. When the husband saw that his wife had not come to deliver the meal, he walked along the way home to see if his wife had come to deliver the meal. On the way, the young man was eating and his wife was sitting next to him and watching him. This scene happened to be seen by the husband of the woman. The husband thought that his wife had committed adultery and divorced her in a rage. The wife could not explain the reason to her husband, so she died to prove her innocence. A few years later, the young man who was rescued became the prime minister and came to this place to inquire about the savior, but he did not know that the woman was no longer alive. In order to commemorate the life-saving grace of the woman, the prime minister designated the day when the woman rescued him (the fifth day of the Spring Festival) as the "Ganshe Festival", so the "Ganshe Festival" has been passed down to this day. On the day of the "Ganshe Festival", tens of thousands of villagers from Diman Village dressed in ethnic costumes and came to an open and lively place to gather, eat big pieces of meat and drink big bowls of wine. They took out plows and rakes and other spring farming materials to exchange here, and also went to the mountain pond reservoir to catch "she fish" for competition. Folk songs are also an indispensable "program". It is the way for young men and women of ethnic minorities to talk about love, which is very lively. The most lively activity is "Kanganzi", where many people will play all night long. This is a way of gambling with small amounts of money. Although the funds are not large, the government does not encourage this kind of activity. Now, the "Ganshe Festival" has gradually added some traditional events such as folk songs and dances, folk sports, etc., which has enriched the ethnic characteristics of the "Ganshe Festival".
