Zhenping jade carving is a kind of folk jade carving technique popular in Zhenping County, Nanyang City, Henan Province. Nanyang Dushan produces the famous Dushan jade, which is also called "Duyu". It is one of the "four famous jades" in my country and has the characteristics of bright color, good transparency and high hardness. Duyu mining has a long history, and the carving based on it can be traced back to the Longshan culture layer of the Anguocheng site 4,500 years ago. In addition to Nanyang Dushan jade as raw material, Zhenping jade carving also widely uses Northeast Xiuyu and foreign imported jade materials. According to the technique, Zhenping jade carving includes two types: flower work and plain work. Flower incense, rotary furnace, birds, beasts, ladies and figures are all flower work, with complex knife techniques, delicate carving and novel shapes. Rings, bracelets, earrings, necklaces, etc. are plain work, and the color and texture of the jade materials are particularly important when making them. Zhenping jade carving inherits traditions and draws on the strengths of many others, forming the technical characteristics of "flower work with unique skills and plain work with noble colors". Among all the products, the inner carving and openwork products represented by "Multi-layer Rotating Ball", "Nine Dragon Rotating Flower Incense Burner", "Mandarin Duck Rotating Heart Pot" etc. are distinctive and exquisitely crafted, well-known at home and abroad, and have become the model of Zhenping jade carving. At present, due to the complexity of jade carving techniques and the difficulty in mastering them, Zhenping jade carving lacks successors and urgently needs to be protected and passed on.
