Jing'an Zhongyuan Bamboo Carving (the fourth provincial level) Jing'an Zhongyuan bamboo carving craft is now mainly inherited in Zhongyuan Township, 70 kilometers west of the county seat. The craft originated in the middle of the Qing Dynasty. The prototype work is to engrave words and flower and bird graphics on bamboo tubes for serving dishes, tea, and oil. Under the promotion of artists such as Cai Hongzu in the middle and late Qing Dynasty, the craft level has become more and more perfect, and the rich variety of bamboo carving works has always been favored by local people and passing merchants. In the past thirty years, folk artists Cai Mingbo, Cai Changyuan, Cai Huayuan and other families have inherited the art of their ancestors, studied the skills, and vigorously promoted them, making Zhongyuan bamboo carving craftsmanship shine. There are hundreds of works including pen holders, tea cans, flower vases, figures, bamboo tubes, ornaments, ancient building models and various bamboo carving gifts. The main carving techniques are: hollow carving, round carving, root carving, relief carving, micro carving, green carving, combination carving, machine carving, etc. Taking the two-layer hollow pen holder as an example, the process is as follows: cutting bamboo blanks, turning blanks, soaking blanks, drying sand blanks, drilling holes, rough carving, fine carving, sanding, painting, combination, inlaying, and then painting and packaging, 15 steps. The carving techniques and works have applied for and obtained 8 national patents, and the works have won dozens of awards such as the second, third, fourth, and fifth gold medals of the China Bamboo Culture Festival and the International Bamboo Expo. The works have been transformed into commodities and exported to dozens of countries and regions such as Japan, Southeast Asia, Europe and the United States. Zhongyuan bamboo carvings embody the beauty of emptiness, exquisiteness, symmetry, and exquisiteness, and have high historical, cultural, technological and economic value.
