Xinjiang Kazakh yurt

Xinjiang
🎧  Listen to Introduction

The Kazakh yurts in Xinjiang have a long history. Princess Xijun, who married the Wusun King, the ancestor of the Kazakhs, sang in the song "Yellow Crane": "The yurt is the room, the felt is the wall, and the meat and cheese are the drink." This poem describes the yurt. It can be seen that the Kazakh yurt has a history of at least two thousand years. In 2008, the construction skills of the Kazakh yurts were selected into the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage protection list in my country. The Kazakh yurt is generally about three meters high and covers an area of 20 to 30 square meters. It is surrounded by circular felt walls and has a round roof on top. The frame of the yurt is made of red willow wood on the Gobi Desert; the outer fence is woven with Achnatherum splendens; the diamond-shaped enclosure is also made of fine red willow wood; the connecting materials are cowhide ropes and tendons; the door frame and door are made of pine wood. In addition, a large amount of felt and wool ropes are used, and the entire yurt does not use a single nail. The Kazakhs in the pastoral area move more than ten times a year. Except for winter, they live in this kind of yurt in three seasons of the year. This kind of yurt is not only easy to carry, strong and light, but also easy to disassemble and install. It can be "built" in more than two hours, so it is very popular among herders. The Kazakh yurt is rich in national artistic characteristics. The colorful main belt used to tie the fence is about 2040 cm wide and is woven entirely with colorful wool. The patterns are beautiful and generous. This kind of ribbon is mainly used to tie the joints of the house wall and the house pole. It not only makes the yurt firm, but also makes it look "magnificent". The door is also made very carefully, with carved patterns and painted patterns. The felt hanging on the door is also embroidered with colorful wool threads to create various bright and eye-catching patterns, which looks generous and artistic.
