Russian folk house construction techniques
The Tacheng area of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has been known as the "Eastern Moscow" in history, which is closely related to the close border trade exchanges for more than a hundred years. Over the past century and a half, due to the influx of Russians, Russian folk and architectural art has gradually been integrated into Xinjiang, mainly in Tacheng, a border city in the northwest corner of Xinjiang, which makes the city full of Russian style, and the Russian architecture of this city also exudes a unique flavor. In 2008, the construction skills of Russian folk houses were selected into the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage protection list in my country. According to data, in the early days of liberation, Tacheng City had nearly 300 Russian-style folk houses and public facilities. Now there are only 10 left, of which 6 were built from the end of the 19th century to before the founding of New China, and the rest were built in the 1950s and 1960s. The Russian folk houses and architectural art in Tacheng, Xinjiang are mainly reflected in the structure and decoration style of the houses. The structure is brick and wood, the houses are tall and spacious, which is conducive to air circulation; there are many and large doors and windows, which are conducive to lighting, so that the indoor light is sufficient. The thick walls are good for keeping warm in winter and insulating in summer, so that it is warm in winter and cool in summer. A round iron stove is used for heating in winter. The stove is usually built in the corner of the house partition wall, which can heat two to three houses at the same time, saving fuel and keeping the house clean and hygienic. There is also a small oven on the stove, in which teapots, bread and meals can be placed. In addition to brick and wood houses, there are also wooden houses. In order to facilitate the removal of snow, the roof slope is very steep. In terms of appearance, most of them are "human" shaped iron roofs. This kind of round log house has good thermal insulation performance. The construction skills of Russian folk houses fully reflect the wisdom of the builders and are a unique flower in the architectural art of Chinese ethnic minority folk houses. Protecting and inheriting the construction skills of Russian folk houses is of great significance to the study of the culture, history, architectural art, folk customs and other aspects of the Russian ethnic group in Xinjiang, China.
