Flower whip drum dance is popular in Shanghe, Shandong. It was a tool for poor artists to beg for money in the old society. According to the oral accounts of old artists Wang Houfeng, Wang Ankui, Zhang Fengyun, etc., in the 29th year of Emperor Guangxu's reign, the local brothers Wang Lili and Wang Wenyi, who made a living by singing, worshipped the wandering artists Li Guizhen and Li Mingxiong as their teachers while performing in Beijing, and learned the flower whip drum dance. After returning to their hometown, they practiced hard and passed on the flower whip drum dance to local artists. In the third year of Emperor Xuantong's reign, the exquisite skills of the brothers Wang Lili and Wang Liyi were noticed by Qing officials and they were summoned to the palace to perform for the emperor. During the flower whip drum dance, the rope tied to the drum broke, and the emperor immediately ordered the four kings to bring a bundle of yellow dragon ropes to the brothers. Since then, the village has used the yellow dragon rope - the dowry cart - for weddings. To this day, the story of the yellow dragon rope has been passed down as a good story by the locals. 1. The flower whip was boiling like a golden snake dancing wildly, dazzling and overwhelming. The drum sound was like a galloping war horse, which made people excited and the crowds boiled. 2. The props of flower whip drum include whip, flower drum, costumes, etc. 1. Whip: 50 cm long, tied to two drumsticks respectively. This whip is made of two cowhide strips. There are two knots tied from the whip head upwards. The whip is as thick as a little finger and is wrapped with various colored wool, so it is called flower whip drum. 2. Flower drum: The style is the same as the waist drum. The two drum heads are covered with cowhide. The diameter of the drum head is 15 cm. The drumstick is made of wood and the color is bright red. There are more than 30 kinds of dances, including the front eight steps, the back eight steps, the kite turning over, the carp jumping over the dragon gate, the ancient tree with twisted roots, Zhang Fei cheating the horse, Su Qin carrying a sword, two dragons spitting whiskers, the golden gourd, the chrysanthemum covering the top, the black dog drilling the crotch, and the eighteen rolls on the ground. 3. Costumes: The performers are dressed as martial artists, wearing a horsetail windproof (turban) hat, a black cross-body coat, a satin belt, a large belt, and a waist collar (black), black bell-bottom pants, and thin-soled boots.
